Subject:Admirer from Afar
Story:It's kind of funny that I'm writing this being that I'm not a Duke fan, actually I'm a Tar Heel fan, but I absolutely admire and respect what Coack K has done for Duke, and the inspiration he has given to thousands, including myself in being such a great leader, a great teacher not just about the game of basketball, but this journey we know as LIFE. I have always heard stories about how great Coach K is, but not until I read his book "Leading with the Heart", could I fully appreciate what a great gift this man has been to so many and for the game of basketball. This guy I'm dating is a huge duke fan, and Coach K fan, that ultimately inspired me to read the book and get a real feel for this gift of leadership coach has brought. I see alot of my friend in coach K, in the way he leads his life to the leadership he brings, to the positive outlook he always tries to live with. It made me want to be a better person, live a better way; a more meaningful way. It made me want to walk this journey called life a different way. I have to tell you "Leading with your Heart", led me to so many tears, because in so many aspects of my life I could relate, even though I'm a girl and I don't play basketball, just a huge sports fan. It's unfournate because being in the light of the media, you see alot ugliest; how money & greed has taken sports to a dark place. It's not about the love & passion of the sport for many it's about money in alot of cases...but not Coach K, it's always been about the teachings, the experiences, the journeys, the friendships the mere passion of the game.

So thank you, for inspiring me.

Subject:A True Humanitarian
Story:I will always be endeared to Coach K.. We have never met but we had a mutual friend, Chase Faiello. Chase was in my 2nd grade classroom when he was diagnosed with leukemia. He was a HUGE Duke Fan!. That's all I heard about in the Spring - Coach K and Duke Basketball. Coach K invited Chase and his family down to a Duke game where Chase met the basketball AND football team. What a way to make a little guy's dreams come true. Thank you for taking the time to give back. Coach K is truly an inspiration.

Subject:The Clumsy Freshman
Story:As a young, naive Catholic lad on the '64-'65 freshman basketball team, I wonder how I would overcome my clumsiness and deficiencies to play a role for the powerhouse Chicago Catholic League Weber High School's basketball program.  It was a struggle to develop the skills necessary to gain the attention of our coaches.  I practiced hard, I practiced long after the freshman team departed the court - giving way to the varsity - the likes of......Polizzi, Lubash, Koplitz, Petrucha, Zielinski, Closs and Krzyzewski.  All super-stars in my eyes - characters and players to emulate and follow.

On one cold and windy winter afternoon I stayed after practice to work at the end-court basket (with the inner hoop) on any part of my game - needing help in all aspects.  As I ran to gather an errant shot a varsity giant stopped the ball and kicked it back my way.  "Thanks Mike" was all I could think to say as the junior phenom, Mike Krzyzewski, returned the greeting.  He stopped during his practice break and said he had noticed my efforts and offer a tip to improve my acceleration to the hoop.  You have to have been a freshman in an upper-classmen world to appreciate the feeling that I had and the pride Mike's gesture of friendship provided me....I was determined to double my work effort to improve from that point forward.  How cool was that - even talking to a freshman - only by someone of confidence and a one who cared for a fellow student - not worried about what others might think (sound familiar).

I went on to assume leadership roles at Weber and improve my weak grades to honor-roll levels.  There were a number of student and academic athletes to admire at Weber - Coach K led the way with his devotion, dedication and moral character.  It's no secret that his moral fiber and character have elevated him and all who come in contact with him - in all aspects of life.

God bless you Coach K..........best wishes for continued success with your program.  Thanks for all you do to inspire others.

Subject:EX NBA player Duke Fan
Story:Hi my name is Tod Hart. My father (Tom Hart) played in the NBA in the 50's for a year for the St. Louis Hawks. He was a standout at Middlebury college in VT. They always lived in the northeast, but my father was always a big Duke fan. My parents moved to N.Carolina about 20 years ago and now live in Wilmington. My father never misses watching a game. It's what he lives for. He now (in his 70's) has difficulty walking. At most a couple hundred yards at a time. For Christmas, I gave him tickets to the St. Johns game. They had to park at the furthest lot. (they claim it was 6 miles up hill??) He struggled to walk it...from time to time people helped him...but nothing would stop him from getting to the game..they arrived 10 minutes before tip off..had the time of their life and hitched a ride back to their car...This may have been his final and biggest "hustle" of his career....He is a true fan!!
